ok Good afternoon Mr.Simper

and thank you for the honor of "typing" in your wonderful blog (she nods)

well i did some homework for that, for i didn't really know what should i say about it!

well the approximation of such ratio is found first in the parthenon (your picture) and many ancient greek buildings, but it only appeared written from around 300 BC in Euclid analysis of what it is.

it is a very interesting number indeed, and attracted not only the interest of an architect!
it is related to phsycology, biology, music and art..

In architecture there are 3 ways of dealing with it so far in my mind, those are:

1-proportion in its pure mathmatical configuration as it is aesthetically pleasant.
2-Human relationship with this proportion.
3-the additive and continuous quality of this proportion.

1. is calculated and measured and used in history for the sake of its geometrical appeal since the renissance periods (intentionally).

2. this proportion is applyed on the human proportions, and found to be very related so architecture made on this irrational number will be more close to the human interaction and here we can find a reason in what is seem to be so mythical.. and here Le Corbusier reclaimed the golden section to get back to a space related to humans -after WWII- without the need of luxury in design, so what he meant is that the golden section is enough to provide the appealing sense in the place he is designing.

3. is the relationship of this ratio in a more urban context, how it could affect a whole city!
because this ratio being an infinite one so you can imagine the additive act of its sense, just like spiderman 3!
also this is seen in Le Corbusier's image of the endless city that he drew in his previous sketches.
and it is not only thought by him it is just the ornaments in its geometrical configuration that can always affect the city more than the small details on a wall or just a proprtion of a building.

_Bows_ thanks for your patient reading :) i made it as concise as it could be.
